4th Annual Marcedes Lewis Foundation Football Camp

The purpose of our events are to teach kids not only about football and other sports, but about life, discipline, teamwork and the importance of education. All too many times we lose focus on what’s important, but what it boils down to is the most important thing in life – the future of our children.

Camp was a huge success in 2011! We caught up with old friends and made new ones. Be sure to mark us in your calendar for next summer so that you can join in on the fun.

ABOUT MARCEDES LEWIS FOUNDATION                                                                                                                                                 The Marcedes Lewis Foundation was established by Marcedes Lewis to support the youth in our community. His love of children and the success of a childhood dream prompted Marcedes to start this Foundation.

The goal of the Foundation is to award scholarships to youth in the community who otherwise would not be able to participate in youth sports such as football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc. The scholarship recipients will be required to maintain certain academic standards and report to the Foundation periodically.

The Foundation will follow each recipient through his/her youth and high school years in the hope of being able to assist in any necessities that he/she may incur as they enter college.

The ultimate goal is for the Foundation to grow to a point to support sending a child to college on a full ride. The college recipient would also have requirements that will have to be met to receive a scholarship renewal each year.

Like every other NFL player, Marcedes Lewis has been locked out of his job in the off-season labor strife that has beset his profession.

But that hasn’t kept the 2002 Poly High graduate and extraordinary tight end of the Jacksonville Jaguars from continuing his off-season community philanthropy.

Indeed, for the third straight year, Lewis will be hosting a football camp Saturday at Poly between 8a.m. and 3p.m., with more than 600 youngsters 7-17 already having pre-registered to participate in a free clinic that’s coordinated by Lewis’ mother, Yvonne Withers.

“We’re not only going to be teaching about football, but also about life,” said Lewis, who had a breakout season in 2010 with the Jaguars with 58 receptions, 10 touchdowns and a Pro Bowl appearance.

The Marcedes Lewis Foundation every year puts on an amazing night of fun and games with a fundraising night called “Casino Night.” Marcede’s intention was to create a fun atmosphere for fans, friends and family to enjoy. Food a cash bar, incredible prizes, NFL memorabilia and much more is available, all to raise money to help make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children in the community. The proceeds go towards helping to run the Marcedes Lewis Foundation Football Camp.
